Did you catch Babylon’s 2023 Homecoming? If not, it was one to remember! It went a little like this. The Panthers celebrate a tremendous win after they dominated Greenport with a score of 33-0, yet this did not come as a surprise to some with Assistant coach De Lapi stating that he feels “very confident” and Head Coach Punzone stating “I’m very excited about this year’s team, I mean there’re great kids they work hard.” The football team sure keeps us on our toes with their eye-catching plays.
Babylon’s cheer team coached by Coach Bochicchio was arguably the most entertaining part of Saturday’s game. Although they couldn’t do their stunts due to the weather conditions, they did not let that stop them. The team was pumped up which came as no surprise again. “Honestly they are very self-motivated, if one of them is kind of feeling down, they kind of lean on each other to, you know pump each other up” says Coach Bochicchio. Senior player Hailee Ricca stating her teammates/coaches would describe her as “hardworking” “loud” and “peppy.” These are all qualities that make a cheerleader excellent.
Congratulations to the homecoming queen GiGi Basile and Homecoming king Trevor Thuma. The other members of the court include Sophia Conti, Brooke Kenedy, Hailey Lassen, Mathhew Hefer, Salvatore Durler, Ben Dellafranca and Emilio Cardillo-Schrader. Many members of the court state that their favorite school tradition is spirit week. Gigi Basile is involved in many clubs one of which being student cabinet and she state she was there to “have fun” and Trevor Thuma states after his win “I was happy…. It’s like one out of your entire grade so I think it was pretty special.” I believe I speak for everyone when I say this year’s homecoming court was a admirable one.
Lastly, congratulations to the juniors on their float winning. The juniors float theme was battleship and they even incorporated real smoke!
The weather may not have been perfect, yet the experience was worth it!
