For our next feature we have a teacher that appreciates every single one of her students. She loves having the ability to watch all of her students grow from pre-teens to young adults. She says, “So much physical, emotional, academic, and social growth occurs between 7th and 12th grade.” She attended college at SUNY Oneonta which she attended for 5 semesters before attending and graduating from Stony Brook University. Before teaching in Babylon, she got her start in Elmont Memorial High School in the spring of 1990, she started teaching in Babylon that semester. If she wasn’t a teacher, she would have been a landscape photographer or a photojournalist. This teacher loves to travel to new places in the US and abroad! If there was one club she could start at this school it would be an International Travel Club! Any guesses on who this could be? This teacher feature is… Mrs. Jayne!
Questions and Answers:
- What do you like to do in your free time?
In my free time I like to travel to new places in the US and abroad.
- What job would you have if you weren’t an educator?
If I wasn’t a teacher, I would have been a landscape photographer or a photojournalist.
- What is your favorite thing about Babylon?
My favorite thing about Babylon is having the ability to watch the students grow from pre-teens to young adults. So much physical, emotional, academic, and social growth occurs between 7th and 12th grade. It’s a wonderful and rare thing that teachers in other districts don’t have the opportunity to experience.
- Were you in any other school districts before Babylon, and if so, do you have the same position here?
I taught in Elmont Memorial HS for six weeks during the spring of 1990 as a replacement for a Spanish teacher who was on maternity leave. I started teaching in Babylon that September.
- If you could start any club in the school, what would it be?
It’s not feasible, but an International Travel Club would be amazing!
- Where did you go to college?
I attended SUNY Oneonta for 5 semesters and graduated from Stony Brook University (both grad and undergrad)
