The Babylon Chapter of the National Art Honor Society and BHS Art Clubs are always looking to try new things, “working smarter, not harder.” This year, this was exemplified with their “Un-Window Painting.”
Every year, Babylon artists add some holiday spirit to the BHS cafeteria, painting a variety of holiday scenes on the windows. Although hosted by NAHS and Art Clubs, this event is open to all clubs who want to add some cheer to BHS. This iconic event brings the department together and gets everyone into the holiday spirit. Mrs. Schwieder and Mrs. Stork provide hot chocolate, cookies, music, and most importantly the escape and joy that art provides.
However, the art teachers and select students would find themselves overworked. Diluting paints with soap, preparing colors, transporting materials, cleaning messes, and the worst of all: wiping down the windows at the end. This rigor is not needed during the holiday season yet is so loved by BHS.
Now, the Art department launched what they call “un-window painting.” Students can now gather within the art room to paint on window-sized pieces pf paper. These large paintings are then hung on the windows instead of being painted directly on. This allows for little setup, flawless cleanup, and vibrant scenes. Most importantly, art can be kept every year as a reminder of the holiday spirit we all need in our lives. This innovative process perfectly exemplifies our artist’s creativity and the foundations of Babylon’s greatest traditions.
