Course Recommendation

One of the unique aspects of Babylon Junior Senior High School is our eligibility to take a course called Child Psychology. I have taken this course for two years and it was honestly one pf the best experiences of my time as a high school student. In the elective of Child Psychology, you had the unique opportunity two days a week to work with preschool age children. The Panther Preschool was created in 1979 by the late Cynthis Theiss and has been a staple in the Babylon Community since. When I walk into 4th period and it’s preschool time, it is honestly the highlight of my day. We sing songs, dance, and do numerous crafts all in one period. Being in panther preschool kind of brings out the kid in you again. One of the cool aspects of the course is once every semester, you get to create your own lesson and teach it to the class. It’s really awesome to have the opportunity in high school to actually get the experience of teaching a classroom of students and this aspect was one of the things that made me realize that I wanted to be a teacher. There are so many other things that also make Child Psychology a wonderful class. I’ve gotten the opportunity to work with Life Skills kids and take a baby simulator home for the weekend to evaluate my parenting skills firsthand. If there were a handful of classes I would recommend taking before you graduate BHS, this would certainly be in there as I’ve become a better, more understanding person through my experiences in this class.
